Jess’s Feeding Story

“I was determined whilst pregnant to at least “give it a go” little did I know that as soon as he was born and headed for the breast that I’d be so overwhelmed with pride and motivation that I’d feed him until he self weaned at 15 months. Whilst that was quite early to self wean, looking back now it was the right time for us. After the difficult start we ended on a high and it was on his terms and that’s all I ever wanted for him.

In the early days we battled tongue tie, horrendous oversupply, engorgement and dreadful discomfort and pain.

We had absolutely no support from local resources and so I used a chunk of my savings I’d kept aside for mat leave to pay for a private IBCLC to come and give us some help. 3 hours with a wonderful lady called Linda saved our journey.

From then on I felt empowered to carry on and whilst I didn’t love every second (which is totally normal) I don’t regret a single day ❤️

It’s normal to feel touched out and frazzled and to resent your partner and their useless nipples when you’re up for the 3rd, 4th, 5th time a night (again totally normal!) but to see my little baby become a little boy who’s healthy, happy and content is worth all those 4am tears watching YouTube videos on the perfect latch and despite the struggles I’d do it all again tomorrow!”
